Myrtle Avenue Rising

Myrtle Place, the Scarano project on Myrtle and Nostrand, is inching toward completion. The ground floor of this development is retail space (14,000 sq. ft.)  and since I live in the area I’m hoping for what I think we need the most: a pharmacy. I know it’s not a glamorous wish, but it’s something this area desperately needs.

Check out the back side of this development. It looks very Miami condo doesn’t it?

There is another development on Vernon Avenue that abuts the Myrtle Place building. Not sure what the details are on this one, but it looks like it’s much closer to completion than its neighbor.

I’ve heard from people on the block, construction workers on the site that the Vernon ave place is to be senior housing.

It’s great to hear that the Vernon building is senior housing, because I don’t think there is any other building in the immediate area specifically for them.

Bitterrenter, I hear ya. Amazing how quickly a neighborhood in transition can price you out of the market. When I look at affordable housing developments they are often rentals or there are income restrictions so that middle class people like me are not qualified. Increasingly housing in NYC is for affluent residents or destitute residents.
