Myrtle’s Got a Brand New Bag?

Are our Clinton Hill neighbors getting their very own Brooklyn Industries store?Â

A New York Times interview with Brooklyn Industries owners, Lexy Funk and Vahap Avsar, offered this little nugget of info:

“In February, after vacating a 22,000-square-foot warehouse in South Williamsburg in favor of a larger facility opposite the Brooklyn Navy Yard, they decided to retain the space, in part as a way of supporting a still-struggling neighborhood. ”

I knew the store on the southside had been turned into a gallery, but what’s this about a facility opposite the Navy Yard? Has anyone heard any details about this?Â

The photo above was taken (with a cell phone unfortunately) about two weeks ago. The building where I spotted the Brooklyn Industries van is located just across the street from the Pratt Bookstore. This new building on Myrtle between Steuben and Emerson is supposed to have retail on the first floor.Â

Could messenger bags on Myrtle be in our not-too-distant future?

You can read the full NYT interview with Ms. Funk and Mr. Avsar here.

Lesterhead, if you guys get your own Brooklyn Industries store, let’s just say I’ll be spending a lot of time (and money) in Clinton Hill! :)
