When Women Pursue Justice
By The Changeling | April 25, 2007
On the corner of Nostrand and Greene there is a colorful mural that salutes the lives and work of women who have been catalysts for change. At the bottom of the mural there is the title “When Women Pursue Justice”.
The mural includes several well-known woman leaders such as Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to the U.S. Congress; Margaret Sanger, the birth control advocate and founder of Planned Parenthood; and Angela Davis, a political activist. There are also images of Dorothy Day, founder of the Catholic Worker Movement and advocate for the poor; Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America; and Wilma Mankiller, the first woman chief of the Cherokee Nation.
