An Unusual House on Willoughby

By The Changeling | June 19, 2007

What’s with this beautiful house on Willoughby and Nostrand? It’s huge and has a nice yard surrounded by a fence. It stands out because its the only house on a block of brownstones. What’s strange is that I’ve never seen anyone entering or exiting the place, although there is a small sign near the front door that says that there is a food pantry operating out of this house twice a month. I’ve only seen the gate open once in two years. Who owns this house?

This house looks like it’s frozen in time. This kind of house really makes Brooklyn unique and special. I wish the owners will treat this property with the love it deserves.

Check out the dob website. Its owned by a religious organization and is quite busy on some weekend nights. Its main function seems to be use as a rental party hall.

I thought it was haunted too. I’ve been dreaming about what it would be like to own this house. I would have parties every weekend. If I ever see the gate open again, I’ll try to get inside and take some pictures.

be careful going inside such big homes there could be traps there or something could happen to you.

i’ve been tempted myself but the fear of a large pitbull running around scares me.

Mumbles to self: put up a damn 6 foot fence, don’t open my doors or come outside, and they STILL want to visit me, WTF?? They like roaches!

Look BIGD, if you don’t want us to be interested in your place, open up the fence, turn on the lights and invite us in. We’re only interested stuff when it’s off limits. :D

We’ll need proof that he really owns the house. Show us the deed.

Fine Fine Fine, Aw righty then, July 4th YOU bring the drinks, food, plates, forks, chairs, tables and tablecloths and I”ll open my gate. While you’re in my yard the lawn needs a-cuttin, and the hedges need a-trimmin!

I’d be religious for a day to check out the interior of this old whale.
What god(s) do I have to pray to for this wish to come true?

When we were kids, we use to refer to that house as 1313 Mockingbird Lane. A reference to the “Munsters” house. We use to imagine ghost and goblins living there. As teenagers we spent time learning how to rap during the early 80’s when the house hosted parties with local DJ’s and no violence. As adults we were there to witness the marraige of the only tomboy in our little gang. She married a cop and moved to the suburbs. When I saw the pic of that building I realized how much history it played in our lifes. It’s back to looking spooky, but Herman and Lilly Munster turned out to be people named Otessa and bigD.

Joe, I thought you were kidding at first, but now I know that you’re right. I walked by there soon after this was posted and saw the small sign on the front of the building to the right of the main entryway. The sign says it’s a masonic lodge.
