A few days ago I was wandering around the area of the neighborhood near Fulton Park looking at trees when I stumbled upon this block of Stuyvesant Avenue between Bainbridge and Decatur. The homes were lovely and out front there were lots of colorful flowers.Â
The residents even placed these beautiful planters on the sidewalk. There was a sign posted that explained that this block was entered in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s 2007 Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest.
Are there any other blocks in Bedford-Stuyvesant vying for the title?

My block of MacDonough Street between Stuyvesant and Lewis has entered. We were first place winners a few years back and we’re trying to reclaim the top spot.
I’ll have to swing by that block and get a look. Nothing like a taste of the top spot to get your competitive juices flowing! It’s nice to see residents working so hard to make their blocks beautiful.
Most of MacDonough is nice; but between Stuyvesant and Lewis is GORGEOUS. Good Luck
MacDonouI’m buying on MacDonough between Tomkins and Throop and that block is pretty green also. The people I am buying from told me that that block was greener a few years back but the city had to cut some trees down. I really wish that the city could have replaced these trees… Home owner blocks are always beautiful in any part of the city. gh
Check out a two block section of Macon, Malcolm X to Patchen and Patchen to Ralph that are also in!
I’d say “yes, Macon between Malcolm and Patchen is a contender”!
