Bed-Stuy Clean-Up Update #2

Wanna start your Saturday off by doing something nice for your block? Then join us for the Bed-Stuy Clean-Up on Saturday.

WHEN: Saturday, June 16th,2007  8:45 am – 11:00 am

WHERE: Your block (or any block really)

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring one or two black plastic garbage bags and gloves to protect your hands.

WHAT TO DO: We will focus on removing sidewalk trash such as paper/plastic bags, cans, wrappers. (Take pics of all of the trash you collect and send them to me at thechangeling@bedstuyblog.com. Weirdest trash wins a prize from the Bed-Stuy Blog! No, not really, but send pics anyway.)
Currently the only residential blocks being cleaned are

Monroe between Tompkins and Throop

Myrtle between Marcy and Tompkins

Tompkins between Putnam and Macon

MacDonough between Lewis and Stuyvesant

Quincy Street between Malcolm X and Patchen*
The Quincy Street clean-up will begin at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, and at 3:00 p.m. they will be holding a Father’s Day BBQ in the pocket park on Malcolm X and Quincy. All are welcome! They will be raising money to fix up the park.

If you’d like to help others then you can join them on the blocks listed above, or if you’d like to tackle your own block and it’s not listed, please let us know in the comments section below. There may be others on your block who want to participate but are shy about stepping forward, so why not take the first step and join the clean-up? Once one person on the block makes a decision to take action, others are likely to join in. Besides, this is a good way to meet your neighbors and you’ll feel good about doing something for your neighborhood.
