Bike Shop Closes, Develops Shingles

As soon as I posted about the new bicycle racks at the Bed-Stuy YMCA, Bed-Stuy loses one of its bike shops. There was a small bicycle shop located on Myrtle between Nostrand and Sandford Place. I never knew the formal name of this bike shop because it didn’t appear on their sign. Above the shop there was a sign that once read BICYCLES but over the years some of the letters had fallen off so by the time I moved into the neighborhood the sign read ILES. I started referring to it by this abbreviated name, and I pronounced it “isles” as in the British Isles, or like “tiles” without the “t”.  Of course, another letter dropped off the sign about a year ago and then I had to start calling it IES bike shop (pronounced “ease”), but whenever I passed the shop there seemed to be many people who were using their services. There were adults and children using this shop for bike repairs/sales/accessories.Â
A few days ago, IES closed, and there was no indication that a business was ever there. The sign was painted black and the storefront was shingled over in this weird sloppy way creating an aesthetic that only Brooklyn developers seem able to achieve.Â
                    Shingles on a storefront?
This building would be nice if it were renovated. I love the look of the windows on the upper floors. Any ideas about what this building might become?

There is an update to this photo. The boards have been taken out of the windows, the brick and window sills have been painted brick red. It looks a little prettier now, but still we have to wonder what is going on with this property. I smell a flip here!

It’s called fraud! They trying to pass off the building as a 2 Family.
Take some pictures and get a mortgage, see RE is fucked in the US.
Cue the world wide depression coming your way. Suckers

I’m an avid cyclist who lives a mere three blocks from the site of this former store, but i’ve gotta say I’m glad they’re closed. Whenever I would go there for new tubes, my tires would pop after maybe, 3 days at the most…couldn’t help but feel suspicious they were selling me faultily patched merchandise at new tube prices. Plus they totally overcharge; 40 bucks for two new tires on my beater/spare bike?!?!?! I know its a might bit far away, but I stick to recycle-a-bicycle in DUMBO

Can anyone recommend a bikeshop in Bed Stuy? It is a bit pathetic to have to go to park slope to get a flat fixed. Thanks.
