Now It’s Easier To Shop in Bed-Stuy
By The Changeling | July 19, 2007
One of the difficult things about being a newcomer to any neighborhood is getting used to your new surroundings. Where do you shop for food? Where is the nearest dry cleaner? Where are the good restaurants?
Thankfully, the Bed-Stuy Business Alliance has made finding high quality businesses a little easier for both newcomers and long-time residents by creating a website called ShopBedStuy.com. Every neighborhood should have a website like this.
The site is still a work in progress, but I am very impressed with what I’ve seen so far. I encourage you to visit the site and post your feedback in the comments section here.
Thanks, Leo for your hard work and for bringing the site to our attention!

I just found out that the Super Food Town on Fulton allows you to shop online, and delivers!! They have some really nice products (organic produce), and the woman in charge of deliveries will call you if they don;t have something that you ordered to see what acceptable substitutions they can make for you. It is a $10 delivery charge, but they came on time, and it was SOOO worth it. How nice is that! And much cheaper than Fresh Direct anyway- Who needs them!

Who needs Fresh Direct? I do. Super Food Town does not service all of Bed-Stuy and does not deliver to my zip code. But Fresh Direct is probably not going to deliver to my area of Bed-Stuy anytime soon, because I went to their website and left an angry comment about their “selective” delivery zones.

Although I live in Clinton Hill, I like to venture over to Bedstuy and patronize the shops there. I went to church services in the area and am reminded of my childhood when I drive on Stuyvesant near Fulton. The website is very helpful. I didnt know there were 3 spas in the area. I must try them as I patronize Nu Spa in Clinton Hill not far from me. When I clicked on the link for Common Grounds under the dining section, it gave me a confusing location. That might need to be corrected.I thought that location was on Tompkins Ave. I think this address gives several none of which are Tompkins.Just needs a little tweeking and it will be okay. We need something similar for Clinton Hill area for those who dont know.

Super Food Town doesn’t deliver to all of Bed Stuy? I’m in shock! I figured if they deliver to me up here in the north they’d deliver anywhere! I’ll write to them.
The service has been super useful to me since my car died. And they are very nice and efficient. Our usual shopper’s name is Klanda and she is really sweet and helpful.

My zip is 11206 and it’s not listed as one of Foodtown’s delivery zones. I’ve been to the Super Foodtown two or three times and I loved it. I was stunned that Bed-Stuy had such a nice large grocery store. When I heard that they delivered I was ready to celebrate and then I found out that they deliver to Bed-Stuy, just not to MY Bed-Stuy.

Thanks floydcat, she is only a week old so we didn’t add her on yet but I understand she is going to be a member of the alliance. Our Alliance is in the business of improving the community and Tiny Cup is a great improvement; we wish Lisa success and prosperity.

what do people think of solomon’s porch. it seems really trendy and nice, but still that ugly graffiti on the building. i would have thought sty heights would do something to stop this especially with a business that’s trying to help the area.

What do you think of it might be a little more helpful?

I just came from the Foodtown on FUlton . I trekked over from Clinton Hill and it was well worth it. I like it better than pathmark and the prices arent that bad. Such a great market with fresh seafood, bakery, etc. We need that in Clinton Hill somewhere. BUt since we dont have it yet I will continue to make the trip to Foodtown as opposed to Pathmark.
