Community Health Information Fair

The Monroe Street Block Association and the St. Mary Church of Christ in a joint effort will be sponsoring a Community Health Information Fair. The street fair is a public event that is intended to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention, enhance public awareness of major health disparities and educate our community residents and fellow worshippers about the resources available to them. By bringing health professionals, non-profit organizations and local businesses together, the street fair gives every participating organization the opportunity to reach out to people in our community.
Community Health Information Fair
DATE: Saturday, August 18th
TIME: 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
LOCATION: Monroe Street between Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Lewis Avenue
COST: Free!
This is a joint community event that will be utilizing volunteers, taking contributions, offering a food give away, and accepting financial donations. If you are interested in becoming an event sponsor or making a 501C donation, please email Catherine Brown (cbrown60@verizon.net) or Craig Pogue (CPogue@InterfaithMedical.com).
Come out and join the fair for a few hours or the for entire day. You don’t want to miss a minute of this event!!

Was anyone else excited about this event, only to be disappointed that there were lots of unhealthy foods being sold?
Diabetes and obesity are huge problems in our community so I was saddened to see that all the food vendors that I noticed were hawking fat and cholesterol loaded foods like hot dogs. Hopefully future health fairs will take a more holistic approach to health that includes diet.
I was glad to see that there was free HIV testing and fun carnival rides for kids.
