This Thursday, July 5th, CityParks Concerts come to Herbert Von King Park. This week’s concert features The Delfonics, and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m. If you are not familiar with The Delfonics, you should be. Here is the information taken from the NYC Parks and Recreation website: Â
The Delfonics were one of the first groups to feature the smoothed-out, orchestra-heavy soul that came to be known in as “the Philly Sound.†Their 1968 debut included the single “La-La (Means I Love You),†a huge hit that stood out from the rawer Stax/Volt records then ruling the charts. With original member William Hart still holding down the fort, the Delfonics provide a sweet reminder of those golden days of R&B when harmony was king.
Anyone who has seen Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown has heard The Delfonics. You’ll recall that Jackie Brown turns Max Cherry onto this group after he gets her out of the county lock-up. She plays The Delfonics’ song “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” on vinyl for him. I think this song is their true hit and much better than their debut “La-La…” In any case, this concert should make for a fun Thursday evening.
Herbert Von King Park is located between Marcy, Tompkins, Lafayette and Greene Avenues. For more information call 212-360-8290.

I’m not sure how long they’ve been having concerts at this park, but the organization that sponsors these free concerts (the CityParks Foundation) has been around nearly 20 years.
This is the CityParks website. This season’s lineup for Herbert Von King Park can be found at this link:

They were finished at 7:30pm exactly, and it was due to the rain I think. Please check http://www.shopbedstuy.com, let’s work together.
