Film Short: Rubber Souls
Directed by Christine Turner from Reel Sisters
Unlike the rest of the kids on the block, Francis is a
complete wreck when it comes to the dribbling of a
basketball. Instead he prefers to get funky with his James
Brown record collection in the solitude of his own bedroom.
But when Francis falls for a neighborhood baller named Regina,
he takes a look at his yellowing sneakers and, grabs his milk-
crate of vinyl, and heads for the local second-hand record
shop.
Live Performance: Afro Mosaic Soul (Guaranteed to kick the film festival off right!)
Featured Film: Kirikou and The Wild Beasts
Directed by: Benedicte Galup & Michel Ocelot
Kirikou, the razor-sharp little boy who emerged from his mother’s womb able to speak, and who moves as fast as the Road Runner, uses ingenuity, deductive reasoning and bravery to outsmart the evil witch who threatens his resilient African village. If you loved “Kirikou and the Sorceress” you have to see Kirikou and The Wild Beasts.
