We Shall Walk With a Walk That Is Measured and Slow

Patrick Van Doren Pocket Park Mural on Quincy and Malcolm X Blvd.
This mural on Quincy Street makes me smile. It reminds me of one of my favorite books from my childhood, Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends. Silverstein illustrated his books and the pictures he drew looked a little like the images on this wall.

I never thought about that buy you’re right about the mural! I loved all of Shel Silverstein’s books when I was a little kid. I recently bought them all of my niece. One of my favorite books is the big O and the missing piece…

What a wonderful set of books to give to your niece. I think I read Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic at least a million times as a child. In fact, I still have my original copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends. Good stuff.

This mural would fit right in with Shel Silverstein’s work. I still have my original copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends too. I got it at my sixth grade graduation for reading the most books in the school. My favorite poem was Sick.

Oh yeah! Little Peggy Ann McKay who was sick until she realized it was Saturday! My favorite was Peanut-Butter Sandwich, about the king who told his cook to make an extra sticky peanut butter sandwich and when he took a bite his mouth was glued shut because it was so sticky. The whole kingdom had to come out to pry his mouth open and when they finally opened it the first thing he asked for was a peanut butter sandwich. I loved that poem! I also liked giggling at the picture of The Dirtiest Man in the World.
