Inaugural Marcus Garvey Merchants Association Customer Appreciation Day

By The Changeling | September 4, 2007

The Marcus Garvey Merchants (MGMA) Association will celebrate their Customer Appreciation Day & Family Fun Day Carnival this Saturday from 11am-6pm. This premiere event is an opportunity for the Marcus Garvey merchants to acknowledge the support of the community. This is also a fantastic opportunity for Bed-Stuy residents to come out and mix and mingle with their neighbors (and meet new ones). Best of all, it’s FREE!

The festivities will take place on Marcus Garvey Boulevard between Macon and Macdonough Streets and will feature free carnival games and attractions, arts and crafts workshops, storytellers, a Chicago Steppin’ dance workshop, a Sidewalk Stroll fashion event, poetry and spoken word performances and other live entertainment.

There will also be a dedication and acknowledgement of the Honorary Chair of the MGMA, Mrs. Clara Hayes. Mrs. Hayes has owned and operated Macon 5 & 10, located on the Marcus Garvey corridor dating back to 1934. Her diligence, perseverance and commitment to the community have been a vital component to the Marcus Garvey Retail Corridor’s success.

It sounds like this Saturday will be an exciting, fun-filled day!
