Parents As Primary Teachers, Inc. is kicking-off another season of Shake, Rattle & Roll tomorrow, Saturday, September 29 at 11:30 am in the auditorium of the Brooklyn Public Library’s Bedford Branch. Then, it will continue on Tuesdays at 10 am, beginning October 2.
Shake, Rattle & Roll is a free, 12-week, hands-on music program for children of all ages (including infants) and their families. Each of the twelve weeks, families are introduced to different cultures of the world (i.e. West African, Chinese, Indian, Cuban and Native American) by playing traditional percussion instruments and dramatizing folktales.
The 90-minute weekly session includes a map activity, a full hour of hands-on music lessons using authentic, world percussion instruments, a science of sound activity, and a story-time. Families are provided with training and NYS Performance Standards-based curriculum guides to extend the fun, music-making experience to other academic subject areas using public library books. By the end of the program, the children create their own durable instruments and compose rhythm patterns.
