The Rider Project
By The Changeling | October 9, 2007

The Rider Project will be appearing this weekend in Bedford-Stuyvesant as a part of the upcoming Studio Strut this weekend. The information in the promotion materials indicates that this is a pretty cool event and quite a neat idea:
“The Center for International Art in Community (CIAC) presents the RIDER Project @ George Washington Carver Gallery, Magnolia Tree Earth Center. RIDER Projects are public artworks in the back of Ryder trucks. RIDER’s migratory cultural platforms bring art and creative processes directly to people, in their own communities. RIDER exhibitions drive into neighborhoods, park at intersections
and open their doors to the public, for free. Viewers are invited to enter the truck installations, view displayed artworks, and speak with participating artists. Created in 2003 by founder and principle organizer Michele Gambetta, RIDER Projects have exhibited throughout New York City and enabled hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to experience artworks created by over 120 emerging artists from around the world.
Salad Bar, an exhibition of works by RIDER Project artists, will be displayed in the George Washington Carver Gallery at the Magnolia Tree Earth Center in October 2007. Samten Dakpa, Michele Gambetta, Landon Jones, Adam Lister, Mary Pinto, Mark Rentschler, Deborah Simon, and Dwayne Wilson will display their work in the main gallery. A RIDER truck installation will also be parked in front of the gallery during Salad Bar’s opening reception on Saturday and Sunday October 13th & 14th, scheduled to coincide with the annual Bedford-Stuyvesant Artist Association (BeSAA) Studio Strut.”
