Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

By The Changeling | October 10, 2007

I was hanging out around the DeMarKo section of the neighborhood (that’s the area around DEkalb, MARcy and KOsciuszko), and it looks like there are a couple of nice properties being renovated over there.

This is a really nice looking building and my photo doesn’t do a good job of capturing how nice it truly is. Whoever moves into this building will have to put up with the lack of amenities (there’s the pool and the library and the G train and B38 are nearby, but that’s pretty much it). I think that it is a few doors away from a West Indian takeout place (Pete & Pat? Pete & Pete?). Has anyone ever tried the takeout there?

dsc010261.JPGAcross the street is another nice property located at 701 and 703 Dekalb. I really like these buildings. On the day I stopped by I chatted with a man who was working on the property and he told me that these apartments won’t be finished until after Christmas. I kinda like this section of the neighborhood because it seems particularly quiet over there now that pool season is over (the Kosciuszko Pool is just around the corner). Wouldn’t you like to move into one of these properties and join the ever-expanding G-train clique?

nice, the second photo looks like brownstone, somebody is shelling out for that! hopefully that’ll be commercial space on the ground, liven things up around there. and the ground-floor of the smaller space seems primed to be … a speakeasy? what’s with the lone small window? :D

    Thanks for the pics.
Did you record the phone number on the ‘For Sale’ sign?

Ha! I thought that the first floor looked funny for some reason, and that’s it–the single window in the front.

I’m going to check my pics and if I can make out a phone number (or if I pass through this area again) I’ll post.

I go by there EVERY MORNING on the bus, I’ll try to get it. Though the bus is always so crowded I don’t know if I’ll be able to get near a window … there’s actually a lot of interesting development happening on DeKalb.

And don’t forget, you’d be near Sugar Hill AND Home Depot!!!

Let’s just say i live super close to both of these new buildings and they are really nice. The double apartment buildings in the second photo are floor-throughs with big rooms and windows. The building was completely gutted. Also, I’m almost positive there won’t be commercial space on the ground floor..
