Neighborhood Beat: The Bed-Stuy Parlor with Monique Greenwood
By The Changeling | November 27, 2007

The Bed-Stuy Parlor with Monique Greenwood is a Brooklyn Cable Access Television (BCAT) show that spotlights exciting things going on in Bedford-Stuyvesant. This month’s episode focuses on some of the people who have engaged our community in online discourse as well as some of the neighborhood hotspots where Bed-Stuy residents get online.
I was lucky enough to get a chance to be on the show. It was so much fun to be interviewed by the delightful Ms. Greenwood, and I felt flattered to be invited to be on a show with Jonathan Butler, creator of Brownstoner; Peter Epstein, a Bed-Stuy resident who’s doing one of the reno blogs on Brownstoner; TRUE, creator of B*Shine and owner of the soon-to-be-opened stiZzy bar and lounge; Lisa Bayer, owner of Tiny Cup Cafe (a wireless hotspot); and another woman (whose name escapes me) who was the owner of a Bed-Stuy laundromat that is also a wireless hotspot. My segment was taped at Twofiftyeight Cafe on Malcolm X Boulevard and in addition to my interview it included an interview with a young man named Anthony who was a freelance writer and another man who rebuilds cars–both made use of neighborhood hotspots for their work. If I remember correctly, the guy who rebuilds cars gets parts from all over the world via eBay.
Be sure to check it out.

I watched the episode last night, but I did not see you. Were you the first person interviewed?
The most cringe-worthy moments came when Ms. Greenwood kept calling Brownstoner, BROWNSTONE.com. A big error because that is a different website! But she corrected it in the next portion of the show.
The show really peaked my interest to try some of those cafes!

Yeah, I was first. The first time I saw it I tuned in a minute or two after the program started, and I just about missed my own segment! In fact, I suggest tuning in at 8:20 p.m. just in case the show starts at 8:28 p.m.

Is it possible for you to post the video on your blog? Do you know if BCAT posts their videos?
I would really like to see your segment. This is a great site by the way

Hey, I never thought of that! I’ll see if I can.
