Bed-Stuy Real Estate Picks 11/30/07

By The Changeling | November 30, 2007

pow2.jpgFormer Pick of the Week (#3)

#1 — $1700 — 3 br: This three bedroom with one and a half baths is a steal! This is definitely the sort of place that would work well for a couple of students. It’s pretty spacious too. The only drawback is that there is no laundry room on the premises. C’mon, you don’t mind lugging your laundry around when it’s cold outside, do you?
Pulaski and Marcy Myrtle-Willoughby G

#2 — $830 — Studio: This is a very cute studio–it’s BLAZING, according to the headline. Definitely a good deal for someone on a budget. But there’s just that one thing (isn’t it always?). This joint is far from transportation, despite what the ad says. I think the landlord is banking on the fact that a million buses pass by this location, and therefore the person has the freedom to travel anywhere, whenever they like. But everyone knows that Brooklyn buses are the worst form of public transportation and that walking backwards to any destination with your eyes closed will get you there more quickly and more safely than riding a bus. This is for people who are on a budget AND enjoy long walks to and from the subway.
Madison and Marcus Garvey Blvd Kingston-Throop A/C and Gates J

afrorevoked.jpgPICK OF THE WEEK! PICK OF THE WEEK REVOKED!
#3 — $ 3300— 5 br: I can forgive this listing for not revealing the location. Just look at it! It looks kinda cool, but kinda haunted, and it’s HUGE! I wish I could tell you where it is located, but I’ve never seen this property before. If they ever created a Real World: Bed-Stuy, then this would have to be the place where we would see “people stop being polite and start being real.” I can just imagine all of all of the smackdowns and back-stabbing and roommate meetings to discuss “house rules” that could take place here. Definitely Pick of the Week, hands down. Nowhere in Bed-Stuy! A train

This property has become the Marion Jones of the Bed-Stuy real estate game! I’m saddened that the reputation of our weekly Bed-Stuy Real Estate Picks has been sullied by allegations of photo “enhancing.” I can’t give a property Pick of the Week status if it is in Nebraska; it has to be in Bed-Stuy. Clearly someone is misrepresenting their listing here. I’ll give the Pick of the Week to any reader who can find out where this property REALLY IS!

*Not so many interesting properties this week. I skipped the sales altogether. I promise to find some good sales props for next week!

That is some pick of the week. The ad says Halsey & Nostrand and that’s close to the city. I can’t imagine such a semi detached house in this area. Looks like a nice farm house in the middle of Ohio somewhere!

Do you have the entire house, or just one floor? Either way it is huge and great for roommates.

This is a cute studio, but those long walks can be a bit much especially in the winter.

#1 looks nice, but the kitchen is part of the living room, and it’s probably new construction and not built that well. But still not bad.

I love looking at that pick!

I think Sally is right. The house pictured is not in Bed-Stuy and certainly not near Halsey and Nostrand.

I’ve never seen that place. I can’t believe it’s within walking distance of the A train. Definitely not near Nostrand and Halsey.

Hmmmm. Thanks you all for calling this POTW property out. I wonder why anyone would put up a pic that isn’t the real thing. Obviously when you go to look at it, the first thing you would say would be “This isn’t the same house I saw in the picture!”

Sally, right on about the pic looking like a farmhouse in Ohio. I couldn’t tell if it was a floor or the whole house. I was hoping it was the whole house.

I’m right around the corner from Halsey and Nostrand and I’m sure I’ve walked my dogs around that corner several times. Never seen it. I must admit that my head is in the clouds half the time. I’ll try to look in the morning if someone doesn’t get to it first. Too lazy now.

i walked my dog by the area in question a few hours ago. no siree bob, there is nothing resembling a detached house anywhere in the vicinity. it’s all brownstone-y and stooperific over there.

also, i’m pretty sure that house is somewhere in nebraska and that the children of the corn can be found in the field behind it. i call spooky.

I Love the very graphic rescind of the pick of the week… why indeed would someone post a pic that is not the actually place being advertised???? WTF… anyway love the rescind.

I love the rescind too. Shows that Changeling really doesn’t take any nonsense!

I doubt this house exists around there, but this area does have amazing brownstones though, so all of you that posted that you live or walk around this area are lucky in your detail dripping brownstone with stoops!

Ok, definitely not Bed Stuy. But it could be in Brooklyn. My guess would be Midwood or Marine Park. Possibly Dyker Heights. Has anyone contacted the listing person? I’m gonna do that now. I’m curious.

Me again. Owner/realtor just responded. Here’s what they said…
“Oh boy! I think the site goofed up. I previously had mistakenly uploaded a shot from New Orleans when touring and following up on the status of things there! I bet even though I deleted it and replaced it with another, they reloaded it anyway. Thanks for the alert! Not to worry though, the place is indeed in Bed Stuy as indicated in the ad. It’s on Halsey BTW, nearest to Nostrand Avenue as I think is also noted in the details of the ad.”

Bah! They’re not getting the pick back!

Thanks for the follow-up, rh. You, good neighbor, get the pink Pick of the Week! :D

hehe, so how much does it rent for in NOLA? Thanks for solving the mystery rh, and congrats on getting the pick! This reminds me of all the sandals with Ms. America pagents. Remember Vaness Williams, and then all sorts of others that were disgraced and de-throwned in same way? This area does have amazing brownstones in it!

Ooh, I get the pick! Thank you. It was bugging me. Yeah, it sounds bogus alright.
