Today’s New York Times has a good article on the positive effects of being grateful. I found it to be an enjoyable read because the research cited in the article comes out of the area of positive psychology which is one of my areas of interest. Positive psychology is an area of psychology that focuses on the behaviors and mental processes associated with the positive aspects of the individual (e.g., well-being, emotional strength, optimism, gratitude, etc.). This is in stark contrast to traditional psychology which places more emphasis on negative mental states and dysfunction. After reading the NYT article, I figured that today was as good a day as any to start applying what I’ve learned from positive psych. Time to start being a little more grateful, especially for the little things that I take for granted.
On this Thanksgiving Day I am grateful (in no particular order)
1) for The Flight of the Conchords season 1 DVD
2) that Radiohead’s album was free (but I felt so grateful that I paid £5 for it)
3) that Optimimum Cable has FINALLY started offering TV5 Monde (they did not have ONE French language channel in the whole lineup until they started carrying TV5 a couple of weeks ago.)
4) my health
5) my family and friends
6) sock monkeys

Ah, that photo made me smile. Happy Thanksgiving!
lets also give thanks that flight of the conchords was signed up for another season!
