Throop Avenue near Hancock
Here’s another example of the Clinton Hillification of Bed-Stuy. Duncan’s Fish and Chips on Myrtle Avenue is one of those places that I’ve been meaning to visit, but I’ve never gotten around to it. Now it looks like the Clinton Hill fish market has decided to open up shop across the border in Bed-Stuy. Their new store is located on Throop. Does anyone know if it has opened yet? Has anyone tried this new Duncan’s Express?
It’s good to see more development happening in Bed-Stuy. I live in Clinton Hill and Duncan’s is definitely a friday night goto spot for fresh fried fish and chips. You know our people love seafood so I hope the community supports their new location.
It’s open, but they open late and close early. I haven’t gone in because it doesn’t seem too veggie-friendly.
That’s great news. I used to hit the one in CH quite regularly and was always pleased with the good prices and freshness of the selections.
not sure what you mean by “our people”. Seafood is generally expensive, so rich people for sure I’d say.
Is it all fried? there are so many Popeyes chicken around the it’s a shame it’s all fried. Can’t someone bake or broil!
Those hours don’t sound too good. Maybe it’s family run and they just open as they feel like it. I wouldn’t think there are many veggies options in a fish market!
Changeling, do you ever make the walk down Myrtle avenue to go to the nice selection of shops and stores on Myrtle in Clinton Hill? I love that area.
Hi Sally, The Changeling gets around, but I think she is writing about Bed Stuy because it isn’t being done anywhere else.
I tried Duncan once and it was not spectacular, but I will try it again.

so are we free to talk about other areas on this site like bushwick, ridgewood, greenpoint, and others that surround bed stuy, or would changeling prefer just bed stuy.
I’ve been trying to keep the focus on our neighborhood, but if there is something relevant in another neighborhood, then by all means mention it. For example, if you read this post and you happened to know about a fish market that delivers to Bed-Stuy and it was just across the border in Crown Heights then mention it.
Historically Bed Stuy gets only negative press, so I think Changeling is trying to change some of the image of Bed Stuy with http://www.bedstuyblog.com. There are few outlets for information about the area so I think the focus of http://www.bedstuyblog.com should be Bed Stuy. Sally, did you notice how Brooklynian focuses on Brooklyn and not Queens or Manhattan?
Actually the original Duncans is in Fort Greene not Clinton Hill. That being said, couldnt they have changed the storefront and gates to make it look like a restaurant you would want to patronize when it is open? Good lord.

Bree, thanks. I never remember where the dividing line between Clinton Hill and Fort Greene is. I’ve been thinking that Chez Lola and Duncan’s Market (they’re on the same block, right?) were in CH.
I agree the focus should concentrate on bed stuy. But it’s true that this area is much bigger than the other neighborhoods, so we should try to identify which areas we come from and can contribute comments about what’s happening. We can’t all be like changeling and bike all over, so identification of where you are in the hood would be helpful.

I frequent Duncan’s on Mrytle about every other montho or so, more in the summers – I like it and the owner is trusted, by me! I just recently moved from Park Slope to Bed Stuy and happy to see that Duncan’s is taking the ride with me. I will surely try out this new Bed Stuy Duncan’s – good for you! – good for us!
I’ve been to this place and the food is good. My only thing is the time it took… the service was pretty dern slow although friendly. Is actually quicker to buy some (good prices at fish mkt on fulton near kingston) and fry it up at home lol!
I don’t know how to cook fish
so I’m going to have to weather the slow service. You know, I don’t really mind slow service when it’s friendly. I think it’s the slow service with attitude (a combo that seems really prevalent in Brooklyn) that I can’t stand. LOL

I am so glad to see such lively conversation on this blog. Some folks to be a bit more aggressive than others, maybe they should take one of the yoga classes at the newly renovated Y, the place is awesome!!! I am a member. As for the Fish and Chips place, it’s around the corner from me and by the store front I thought it was just another fast food place, didn’t know that it had such a widespread reputation, now I will definitely try them out for sure and let you all know. Here’s a tid bit on me, I bought my brownstone 5 years ago way before it was chic to live here, was the first “outsider” on my block but they welcomed me and I LOVE my block. I have seen a lot of changes in the area including the tenants that I choose to rent to
I welcome all the changes I think they are positive, I just wish that things would move a bit faster. 2 more points and then I will go. 1 – I sure hope this credit mess won’t impact our property values and send houses into foreclosure in the area as fast as they were selling. 2 – I cannot wait for them to clean up Fulton Street it’s so loud out there and it really does not need to be.
