123 Community Space at 123 Tompkins Avenue presents “Hear Me Now,” a film screening and spoken word event for all ages* on Saturday November 10.

5 pm: Screening of award-winning film “Slam,” starring poet Saul Williams.
7 pm: Spoken word performances, hip-hop and open mic with special guest MC’s Tina G and Miss Lizzy and performances by Eugene, Caitlin Meissner, Poeta Guerrera, Kiwi Star, Ol Soul, Kahul Kahsee, Koba, Justin Woo and others.
$5 donation to support 123.
Directions: G to Myrtle/Willoughby. Take Myrtle one block, right on Tompkins Ave. J/M/Z to Myrtle, take Myrtle 4 blocks (past Lewis Ave), left on Tompkins.

A free poetry/spoken word workshop series for adults and teens begins on Sunday November 11, 3-5 pm and continues for 8 weeks. Each workshop will give participants the oppotunity to develop their voices through writing original pieces and studying the work of leading performance poets. 123 Community Space is a grassroots collaboration between several local groups and many neighborhood individuals. 123 currently offers a free bike workshop, an after-school program, a lending library, political prisoner support, film screenings, and other events.
