The New York Literary Society Comes To Bedford-Stuyvesant

Do or Die sent me a bit of news that just has to be included in an addendum to my Thanksgiving Appreciation List. It looks like the New York Literary Society will be opening a reading room in Bed-Stuy. The location will be on the corner of Stuyvesant and Greene Avenues. Click over to the blog “Do or Die” to see the photo.

The NYLS website says that the reading room will be opening in September, so they’re obviously behind schedule, but it looks like there’s been a flurry of activity at the Stuyvesant Avenue location in the past couple of weeks. Hopefully opening day will be coming around soon. Thanks Do or Die for getting the scoop!

Doesn’t this seem like a great addition to the neighborhood?

Tried to go by and investigate more yesterday, but I had no luck. Their website claims hours are until 7pm Wed-Sun. I stepped over about 5. They must (still) not be officialy open.

They’ve opened the spot! I checked it out and it’s pretty nice (though the artwork hasn’t been added yet). I asked them about the delay in opening and they said they had to “re-budget to allow increased security”. Apparently, members get an electronic passkey card that lets them in! Nice…
