I love these sign that get in your face. There are a bunch of them around the area, mainly about caring for the neighborhood and religious. Cracks me up. Wish I had a collection of them.

I was talking to a friend of mine about signs like the one above. He likes hand-lettered signs and he was telling me that they are becoming increasingly hard to find in our neighborhood. Before our discussion, I couldn’t have cared less about homemade signage, but he said something that made me rethink my feelings (or lack thereof) about them. He described a handwritten sign that he recently saw in some discount store, and he emphasized in his retelling, the sincerity that the author of the sign had. His take has made me more interested in finding them.
I also love the old fading signs on Frank Jump’s website, Fading Ad Campaign, so I’m going to try to do a better job on photographing fading signs, hand lettered signs and these care-for-the-neighborhood signs before they disappear.
Check out this Uneeda Biscuit ad that Frank photographed here in Bed-Stuy:

These signs were very popular in the 70’s in Bed Stuy. Because it can’t be purchased at Home Depot that makes it homemade? We cared about our community long before you people got here. You sit with your Duke alumni, stupid comments and continually degrade Bed Stuy. This is where I was born and probably die so if you hate it or dislike us then get the hell out!!!!
I am so sick of useless chatter about nothing, so great now your going to start collecting signage in Bed Stuy Why not visit one of the CBO’s and see how you can make a difference or contact a seniors program to see if there is any area you may be of help. Better yet, venture into a community business and actually patronize it other thab that get a grip and stop acting like your discovering a new place.

Annoyed, why don’t you understand that this blog is not for you? The same mouse clicks that brought you to this site should allow you to click your way back out. It’s amazing that people who hate this site so much continue to visit it daily. That tells me that you’re not only annoyed, but you’re also dumb.

annoyed, these are three sites that offer free blogs to anybody who has something to say. perhaps you might consider starting your own blog if you are so dissatisfied with the voices here?
