Can you talk a little bit about the Civilian Complaint Review Board’s (CCRB) visit to the Community Board at the next meeting? Thanks.

The CCRB is coming to make a presentation to the community. The presentation is supposed to outline what the CCRB does and how the community can access their services. The Civic and Safety Committee invited the CCRB to the meeting. That committee meets the first Tuesday of every month at the community board office. So, please try to attend those meetings as well.

    From CB3’s Newsletter:

Find Out How to File Complaints Against NYC Police Officers

As part of its ongoing mission, the Civic Committee of Community Board 3 will present a representative from the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, Phil Wiezman, who will explain how the public can file complaints about alleged police misconduct.

The New York City Civilian Complain review Board (CCRB) is an independent and non-police mayoral agency. The purpose of this board is to receive, investigate, hear, make findings and recommend action on complaints against New York City police officers which allege the use of excessive or unnecessary force, abuse of authority, discourtesy, or the use of offensive language.

There are several ways to file a complaint, and those will be explained during the session. For more information, please contact (212) 443-8833, or follow the NYC.gov link.

In addition to the CCRB, representatives from our precinct councils will describe how to file complaints in other ways.

PLEASE NOTE: NO COMPLAINTS WILL BE TAKEN DURING THE PUBLIC MEETING.
