RENTALS

rental021508.jpg Decatur and Howard (#5)

#1 — $1200 — 1.5 br: Cute apartment with a nice clawfoot tub. I wish they would’ve included a picture of that built-in mahogany icebox, though. Decatur and Patchen Utica AC

#2 — $1799 — 3 br: This apartment is priced right and they get points for saying it’s between Tompkins and “Troop,” but what’s that weird white-framed square floating in the air on the left side of the room? Kosciuszko and Tompkins Myrtle-Willoughby G

#3 — $1400 — 3 br: This is a nice, simple apartment with seriously cheap rent. The ad says that the apartment is in a “vintage building.” That’s code for old and ugly, because if it were truly a beautiful old building, there would be some outside shots included. You’ll have to ask Tahitia why you have to pay that huge 3 month deposit (plus a couple hundred). Halsey and Patchen Halsey J/Utica AC

afro-pick.jpgPICK OF THE WEEK! #4 — $1350 — 1 br: This is a beautiful floor through with a pass through in the kitchen and tons of details. When you say that you live in an apartment in Brooklyn, this is what people expect to see when they come over to visit. Madison and Throop Kingston-Throop C

#5 — $1550 — 1.5 br: Overall this is a nice apartment, but you’ve gotta click through to see one of the smallest bathrooms I’ve seen in awhile. You can wash your hands while you’re sitting in the tub. Talk about a tight space! Decatur and Howard Halsey J/Ralph C

#6 — $1425 — 2 br: I like that the landlord’s email address makes it clear that he/she is a good landlord. I guess you have to do these things to set yourself apart from all of the bad landlords in this city. Good landlord, great backsplash and a cute apartment.
Putnam and Tompkins Kingston-Throop C

SALES

vacantlot.jpgMyrtle between Nostrand and Marcy (#1) as it is and as it is shown on the NEBCO website.

#1 — $660,000 — Vacant Land: What happened here? I thought that NEBHCO was going to build two mixed-used buildings on this site. Have the plans for this vacant lot changed? What’s taking them so long? Can they pass this to the Toll Brothers? The Toll Brothers would start and finish these buildings over the long weekend.
Myrtle and Marcy Myrtle-Willoughby G

#2 — $580,000 — 2 family: There’s not much to go on here so it’s hard to tell if this is a real deal or not. It’s partially renovated, but it isn’t clear whether one of the units is completely finished (and the other awaiting a reno) or the reno is partially completed throughout. If you’re interested you can contact the agent and get a peek at this home on Saturday.
Tompkins and Gates Bedford-Nostrand G/Kingston-Throop C

#2 rental: why that’s a kitchen pass-through! people love those, and why should this apt suffer just because it’s got an open layout?

#3 rental, that enormous deposit ensures nobody from the surrounding neighborhood will be able to rent this. i guess landlords have the right to charge whatever, but that kind of annoys me.

    Oooh, the POTW is fantastic!

I agree about the enormous deposits that landlords sometimes ask for. I call shenanigans. I mean, talk about entering an agreement with an air of distrust. Plus, is that money making interest while it’s hanging out with the landlord?

I bypass landlords that ask for that kind of deposit simply because it makes me not trust THEM.

#2 rental: Ha-ha! A pass-through in an open layout. It’s really a freaky looking thing isn’t it? Really, I can’t figure out what it is.

#3 rental: Low rent with the high deposit–it’s kinda like those coop buildings with really cheap units (and manageable maintenance fees) that you can’t afford because they want you to put 20% down and have at least 100K in cash reserves. :(

Okay I love the place on Madison #4.
I wish my lease was up this place is cheaper and bigger than what I’m paying now.
But I wonder if it has W/D?

It has a dishwasher, but there’s no mention anywhere about a W/D, and a W/D is one of those amenities that an ad never forgets to mention if a unit has one. I think if you take this apt. you’ll be making trips to the laundrette.

The apartment that’s #1 is ours. Thanks for wishing we’d included a photo of the mahagony icebox - we’ll make sure to do so next time. It is a sweet apartment. If anyone would like to see it, we’re showing it tomorrow (Sunday 2/17/08 from noon-2:00 PM. Click on the link in the Craigslist ad and send us an email for the address.
    Thanks!

[...] this project. NeBHCo seems to be in the foot draggin’ business. Weren’t they the ones who were supposed to be developing Myrtle Avenue between Nostrand and Marcy? If you’ve been down that block recently, you’d know that the only change that has [...]
