   Thanks for the Sellout post. That was really informative and enjoyable to hear. For once, people aren’t talking past each other or yelling and screaming, which is a nice change.

   The guy from Harvard is a complete idiot. Please, please, please don’t think that all educated black people are this stupid. It is a shame that he was able to convince Harvard that he is an intellectual. I don’t give a sh@t what he says…his delivery proves that he is hardly an intellectual but an antagonist, opportunist and any other -ist you can think of.

   I like the Bloggingheads feature in the NY Times a lot. I think most of the discussions they present are interesting.

   As for sellouts, I think they do exist, but I don’t like the careless use of the term. Blacks are not a monolithic group; there is much diversity among members in terms of beliefs, religion, lifestyles, etc. People shouldn’t be labeled as sellouts just because they think, act, or dress a little different the majority of people in their group. The term sellout should be reserved for those individuals who exist far beyond the pale and whose beliefs and behaviors are destructive to the group to which they belong.

   Changeling: I think that is a good point and one that the man from the MAnhattan Inst. comments on nicely. At what point do you draw the line that, once crossed, makes you a sellout. I don’t think it is that easy to draw a line when the community is so braodly based as to make the ability to cross a line very difficult.

   can anybody provide me with a concrete example of a true sellout then? like from the real world? it may be moot for my input on this issue but i’ve never liked the term because i can’t think of a single instance when it’s been used for anything other than sour grapes.

   Hmmmmmm. Some people would say that a gay person who does not advocate for the equal rights and protections under the law for gay people is a sellout. Not exactly the topic of the link, but some would say it fits here.

   An example: Senator Craig does not advocate for equal rights for the gay community.
