I know that there are a lot of Mac users in the neighborhood, so I thought I would post the following information that I received from the Mac Support Store in Brooklyn. They are having a free single session Photoshop Master Class on Saturday, February 23rd from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. The class will also be held on Saturday, March 8th at 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Space is limited so register now.
From their website:
David Biedny is the primary author of the very first book ever written about Photoshop, and was acknowledged in the Photoshop 1.0 manual. His last book, Photoshop Channel Chops (New Riders), is often cited as one of the most influential books ever written about Photoshop as well as becoming the most collectible book in computer trade book history.
He was a Founding Editor of the original MacUser magazine, and is currently a Contributing Editor for MacLife magazine.
He created digital special effects at Industrial Light & Magic for motion pictures including “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”,
“Memoirs of an Invisible Man”, “Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country”, “The Rocketeer” and “Hook”. His former company, IDIG, broke records in 1997 for creating 35 digital effects shots in 35 days for the movie “Spawn”. He has taught at the School of Visual Arts, NYU, Stanford University, San Francisco State University, and many others, and is currently a Lecturer at Yale University.
David’s two-hour lecture will take a close look at maximizing Photoshop as the primary tool in the process of post-production of photographic images helping you gain a clear understanding of the deeper aspects of using Photoshop to make your pictures stand out from the herd. Regardless of whether you use a cheap, low megapixel consumer model, or a top-of-the-line digital SLR, you’re sure to learn something new about Photoshop in this dynamic session taught by the guy who wrote both the first book, as well as the most collectible book, on the graphics wonder known as Photoshop.
Lecture Topics:
- RAW vs. JPEG
- Managing media with the Browser
- RAW import – an overview
- The Gestalt of Color Correction
- Get Smart with Smart Objects
- Sharpening Theory & Practice
- Retouching Techniques – Filters & Tools
- Understanding Channels – Life with Layers
- Output Issues & Compression
- 30 min Q&A

Martina Kohl
Hi Martina. You should probably contact the Mac Support Store (Phone: 718-312-8341/email: support@macsupportstore.com) and ask them if David Biedny will be scheduling any classes in the greater Los Angeles area. If they can’t tell you, they should be able to tell you how to contact Mr. Biedny directly for this information.
Martina,
Sorry to say, I have no plans for being anywhere near Los Angeles in the near future, but feel free to look me up if you ever come out to the east coast!
