An Old Tax Photo of the Building
A few days ago I wrote about the newly renovated building 1050 Broadway. The owner sent over the tax photo of the building from 1930’s. In it you can see the sign for the furniture upholsterer who took over the ground floor of the building. I love looking at old photographs, and I thought you might enjoy seeing what the building and surrounding area looked like 70 years ago.

What a wonderful picture. Thanks to the owner for sharing. I have a similar picture of my house from the tax records circa 1940. Things have not changed as much on my block.

Really? How do we get the tax photos? Can you order them from the city’s website?
What I like about these two photos is that there is a car parked in the same place in both. The more things change…

okay on the train this morning i did see this building was on the left side of the train, in bed stuy. you win. damn that didn’t take long to rent out!

i haven’t seen one old tax photo that wasn’t fascinating. i should get my entire block’s photos and build a panorama.

Thanks for the link Jimmy. I beleive you need the block and lot of your building to get the right picture. That info is available on propshark.com, which can be accessed for free.

Thanks Newbie2. I was wondering about that (and I didn’t want to have to pay an additional $5 fee for the service through the tax photo office).
