Rally to Oppose City’s Plan for Homeless Shelter
By The Changeling | May 31, 2008
I just received this information about the upcoming rally against the expansion of the homeless intake center in Crown Heights. I believe that Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights should not be forced to shoulder the burden of housing this type of center in our neighborhoods. If you agree, then be sure to attend this weekend’s rally. Here are the details:
Mayor Bloomberg has proposed and is trying to implement regarding the relocation of the homeless intake center from Manhattan to the Atlantic Avenue Armory. This plan would be terrible for the all of Brooklyn but would be especially devastating to the developing communities of Bed Stuy and Crown Heights who are trying to overcome their bad reputations, attract new businesses and services, decrease crime and generally pull themselves up. The influx of hundreds of additional homeless (including more convicted sexual predators) to one of the most badly run homeless shelters in the city is nothing but bad news. Brooklyn can oppose this plan and win but only if we are united and motivated. CHRM is organizing two events this weekend and we hope that many of you will be able to participate in one or both.
