Meet Your Neighbors : Episode 6

Welcome back to “Meet Your Neighbors,” a weekly feature on the Bed Stuy blog that serves to make the introductions between you, our readers, and other people who live or work in Bedford Stuyvesant.

This week’s holiday episode serves to provide both your humble beat reporter and all of you a needed break from some of the more controversial and thought-provoking topics that seem to plague most residents here in Bed Stuy. I, for one, enjoyed my day off and attended a Memorial Day BBQ in the ‘hood, and was reminded how simple, domestic pleasures – like consuming a juicy cheeseburger on a butter-slathered bun – can wipe out weeks worth of long days and adult responsibility. But watching kids playing on the now crowded Bed Stuy sidewalks, with the Mister Softee truck blaring “Pop Goes the Weasel” over and over and over again, can also serve to take one back to simpler times (if not, on different days, to drive you insane).

Remember when all you had to worry about was finding your friends on the block and having enough dough on hand to buy a Bombpop? In celebration of the first official day of summer – the time of year when we all like to sentimentalize our childhood – I would like to introduce you to Victoria, the daughter of Gisele C., who was featured in Episode 2. Ready to meet a new neighbor?
