Surprise Closing on Myrtle
The BP Amoco station on the corner of Myrtle and Marcy abruptly closed yesterday. I pass this corner frequently (it’s directly across the street from the Myrtle-Willoughby G train station). I always thought that the station was here to stay. This station was always busy–I can’t think of a time when I didn’t see someone washing or vacuuming their car, filling up their tank, or buying lotto tickets there (even at 3 a.m. in the morning). Children often used the air pump to fill their bike tires. Other than using their 24 hour ATM machine, I never used this station because I don’t have a car. I can’t say I’m sad to see it go.
Apparently they lost their lease. Anyone have any guesses about what will move into this space?

aww what a shame . No more crack heads hanging out looking for people to give em there change .No more cars blasting their music at 2 am while filling up with gas .Yea real loss for the neighborhood

I agree. This is no real loss. The only minor drawback is that this corner is now a bit dark. Hopefully they’ll put a residential building here with retail on the first floor. Not sure what retail is needed here.

I think everyone in the vicinity will be happy because they won’t have to hear car alarms going off in the wee hours (people always seem to activate their alarms accidentally at gas stations).

Yeah, it could possibly shave some years off of your life, but I suppose it could be worse. You could be living atop a giant oil spill like some of the people in Greenpoint.

The good news is less noise and maybe a nice new building. The bad news is a lot less light and traffic on that corner.
I was robbed at knifepoint the morning after the station closed right on that corner and I have no doubt if the station was still there it wouldn’t have happened. Stay on your toes boys and girls!

I call BS on you, Rob. That corner is swarming with cops. If you were robbed at knifepoint then it must’ve been a cop that did it!
