Eminent Duane

By The Changeling | June 26, 2008

Actually, it should be “Imminent Duane” but whatever. The new Duane Reade (on the ground floor of the Mynt building on Nostrand and Myrtle) is slowing approaching opening day. I’ve been watching this like a hawk, but I didn’t know the sign was up until Zengine alerted me about its appearance. I don’t have a date for the opening, but I’ll let you know when the first sticks of deodorant start rolling in.

A daycare will be opening in the space next to the Duane Reade. The sign says that they will have an “after school programme.” Opting for the British spelling of “program”? Classy!

I am so excited about a Duanne Reade opening up in “THE HOOD.” I hope it will be well stocked like the one downtown Brooklyn. I hope the Daycare center is somewhere I can consider enrolling my 2year old. It is pretty rough on that corner but I am hopeful that the neighborhood is getting better. My family and I recently purchased here and are hoping to get decent stores and restaurants that we enjoyed in Clinton Hill. Keep up the good work Changeling!

I’m wondering how this part of Myrtle will continue to develop. What this area really needs is a GROCERY store. The closest one that I know is Bravo on Bedford/Lafayette or Associated on Myrtle near Pratt. I’m also wondering about the daycare. My building on Spencer is filled with families with toddlers/babies that could sure use a good daycare or pre-school nearby.

There’s also a Key Food on Myrtle between Tompkins and Throop. It really has improved over the last 3 years, but I wouldn’t recommend that anyone go out of their way to shop there.

I hate the Associated on Myrtle. Something about those lanes of cars in front of the store. That has to be one of the worst supermarket designs EVER.

Associated on Myrtle smells like a public restroom to me! Anyway, I walked by the Duane Reade today and there were a bunch of employees standing outside taking a break. I asked when it would be opened and they said within 2 weeks.
