Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!

I guess it’s out with the old and in with the new these days! I’m finally starting to feel the nostalgia that some of you longtime residents have mentioned in discussions on this blog. Even though I’ve only been in Bed-Stuy about 3 years, some of the places and things that I enjoy are being changed or destroyed (the old building at the corner of Bedford and Gates immediately comes to mind).

It was only a week ago that I realized that one of my favorite Bed-Stuy storefronts near the corner of Bedford and Lafayette (pictured above) has changed. I wonder if this place has changed ownership? Anyone got the info?

This is another change that was brought to my attention by one of my best tipsters. She said that this spot on the corner of Dekalb and Skillman might become a cafe/wine bar. When I first photographed this storefront I had no idea that it would become something so interesting.

I noticed this from the bus the other day. Maybe it’s an Indian restaurant! (loves Indian food).

I could definitely get with that! I love Indian food.

damn, right when I move off that block stuff starts opening.

And not that anyone cares, but I’ve been an avid reader and periodic poster on here (and on brooklynian if anyone’s on there as well) and I’m leaving the stuy after 2 years on Lafayette and Bedford. I’ll still be reading this to keep up on my old corner :)

Hi.. actually this is not the space that is going to be a wine bar. The wine bar is supposed to open on the other side of Dekalb (between Bedford and Skillman)- the south side of Dekalb. It is right next door to a new hair salon called Ginger Lily or something like that. I walked by a few times this past week and saw them working on it in the daytime. It looks like a really nice space.

@Carmen: Awww, I’ve read your comments (on this blog and Brooklynian), and I’m sorry to see you move away.

@bedstuymom: I saw Ginger Lily (got a great pic of the place) but didn’t notice anything that looked remotely interesting next door. Now I’m even more curious about the place above. When I peered into the window of the place above I saw a vase with an orchid (I think). It was at night and I was just coming back from drinks at Rustik, so my vision wasn’t at its best. I guess that block is really shaping up to be a cool little corner of the hood!

Ginger Lily looks so cute from the B38 bus! Love the stripey awning.

So the new wine bar is the space to the left of Ginger Lily. You cannot tell anything is going on inside when they have the gates down. Also, about the space on the corner of Dekalb/Skillman; it looks like an “office” type space.. when you look inside. I was hoping for a restaurant too.
