Greenmarket Greetings

From our email box:
Hello! My name is Melissa D. Haile, and I am the EBT Market Manager for the Ft. Greene Park Greenmarket, a Farmers’ Market held Saturdays on Washington Park and Dekalb Avenues. We are one of over 40 Greenmarket locations in New York City featuring fresh local foods – fruits and vegetables, juice, dairy, and baked goods – grown and produced within 200 miles of the city. Ft. Greene Park Greenmarket is open year-round.
And just so you know, there are two other market locations close to you:
- Bed-Stuy Youthmarket, a project of Greenmarket and community partners, teaches youth business development skills while supporting local family farmers. The Youthmarket is held Saturdays on Lewis Avenue between Macdonough and Decatur Avenues through November.
- Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket held Saturdays year-round at the NW entrance to Prospect Park across from the library.
We think local food is the best food there is:
- It’s the freshest, most delicious food available. Greenmarket produce is ripened in the sun and typically picked less than 24 hours before market – it hasn’t been sitting on a truck or a shelf for weeks.
- Fresh means it’s the most nutritious food your family can eat.
- Local food is food you can trust – farmers and their representatives are present at the market to answer your questions about how they produce their food.
There’s always something new at the Greenmarket each week, and not just fresh, quality produce you won’t find at your local grocery store. Fort Greene Park hosts a number of free events throughout the summer, including a concert series, Afro-Punk, and more – so bring a blanket, invite your friends and pick up some fresh fruit, juice, bread, and cheese from the market for a relaxing Saturday afternoon get-together.
Greenmarket also hosts educational activities like cooking demonstrations and tours, and special guests like the Park Rangers and chefs from neighborhood restaurants.
What’s more, Ft. Greene Park Greenmarket, the Bed-Stuy Youthmarket, and Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket now accept EBT, Credit and Debit cards through November. Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks given to Seniors and WIC recipients and Healthbucks are also accepted at these markets.
Please help me get the word out!
Feel free to forward this email to your friends, family, and neighbors.
In addition, if you have a group that would be interested in a free tour of the Greenmarket, just contact me!
I look forward to seeing you at the Greenmarket!
Be Well,
Melissa D. Haile
