By Alexa11221 | July 17, 2008
Family Summer Sports Fun Academy
This 8 week program engages young people ages 3-12 and their families in fitness exercises, sports skill development, teambuilding and fun competition.
Through the sports of track & field and soccer, families get the rare opportunity to play together and socialize with other families in a safe and organized activity.
In the first hour participants engage in track & field and learn track starts, relays, javelin (with safety javelin), long jump and hurdles (with safety hurdles). The second hour is devoted to soccer. To begin with each participant has their own ball to maximize touches and learning. They engage in skill-focused games/drills (i.e. trapping, dribbling, passing and shooting) and small-sided soccer games.
There are three instructors and several parent volunteer facilitators. Framilies are divided into two groups (3-6 year olds and 7-12 year olds) with an emphasis on fun competition and fostering of lifelong family fitness.
Space is limited to 50 children and their families with priority given to the sponsoring organization’s service populations.
Where: the outdoor field at Boys and Girls High School, Friday evenings from 5:30-7:30 pm, July 11- Aug. 29.
