I Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death at Von King Park

  1. Brawlitics: Bed-Stuy’s own Dan Lavoie, author of the uber-smart political blog, You’re No Jack Kennedy, puts the smackdown on some Upper East Side Republican. [Time Out New York]
    1. Radical Living in the News: One of the founding members of this communal Christian house used to do freelance work at High Times magazine before quitting the job (and the lifestyle). An epiphany on a subway led him along with his wife to create, in my opinion, a commendable way of living in Bed-Stuy.  [NY Press]
      1. Duane Is Here: Duane Reade on Myrtle and Nostrand is open. I promise never to mention it again.

I had heard of the intentional Christian community before, and was surprised to discover they are on Hart St. If there is a chance that they are reading 9or anyone else in that neck of Bed Stuy, I want to note that Hart St. has TWO massive community gardens on it, both of which are undercultivated, falling into serious neglect, and at perilous risk for being sold to developers and being forever lost as a community resource.

If anyone has any interest in preserving green space in that neck of the woods, or working to better the food security of Bed Stuy, as well as the abominable access to fresh local produce for area residents, contact green thumb about becoming members of the Hart St. gardens.

Or, go by the gardens, call the coordinators, and get started. I have my hands full with two gardens in Southeast Sty but am sick that those two massive gardens may well be sold off in the coming year.

I would so do the Radical Living thing, if it weren’t for the born again christian part.

I hope that those Hart Street gardens can be saved. I remember riding by them when I did a post on the community gardens in the neighborhood.

I am with #2 ab on that one. ;)
