Rise Up Creative Music and Arts Performance in the Target Community Garden

By The Changeling | September 4, 2008

Another cool event in one of our community gardens:

In our continuing effort to embed the innovative arts in our local communities, Arts for Art, Inc. and Rise Up Creative Music and Arts (RUCMA) are presenting a series of avantjazz performances and workshops in a dozen community gardens throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. The events will take
place on Sunday, September 7 and Saturday, September 13, 2008, bringing innovative music into various Manhattan and Brooklyn community gardens. With this series, many great artists are taking the initiative, and have volunteered to bring their art directly to our communities. To establish a new relationship with our communities we will also be literature on the issue of affordable housing, as it affects all of us.

The Avant Gardens are organized by a committee of artists, under the auspices of Arts for Art and RUCMA’s Community Development Initiative. The Avant Garden series is intended to strengthen the artists’ connection to their community.

Literature from the Metropolitan Council on Housing, as well as other information that we have put together on affordable housing - that does not displace our gardens - will be made available. We intend to illustrate that, as artists, we share the same fundamental needs and concerns as many in our community.

RUCMA AND ARTS FOR ART
Rise Up Creative Music and Art (RUCMA) is a grassroots group of artists and their supporters whose goal is to embed art in the communities of NYC. It was initiated by Arts for Art, Inc., a non-profit arts organization, which presents the Vision Festival and other events. Arts for Art and RUCMA are working closely together towards a common vision.

We represent residents, homeowners, business owners and anyone interested and dedicated to the happenings in Bed Stuy. Caught between Clinton Hill and Bushwick, south of Williamsburg, but north of Restoration Plaza, we were starved for some local focus and decided it was time to do it ourselves! Thanks for reading.
