Brooklyn Take-Out Taxi Hits The Road

Some local residents had a brilliant idea recently. All of us who live here know that one of the drawbacks of the neighborhood is that while there are a few decent places to eat, it is nearly impossible to get food delivered. And while there are lots of restaurants of all kinds outside the bounds of Bed-Stuy, they don’t deliver over here. What’s an exhausted person with an empty refrigerator and a Thai craving to do?

Why, call Brooklyn Take-Out Taxi! They operate Thursday-Sunday from 5:30 to 9:30 and also will do lunch deliveries on weekends from 12:30-2:30 pm. This is the first weekend they are in business.

The premise is simple: For a flat fee of $5 to $8, depending on distance, they will go and pick up your takeout order and bring it to you. Yup. Just like that. At the moment they are cash-only, but plan to to be able to take credit cards soon.

The web site isn’t up yet (it will be at www.brooklyntakeouttaxi.com shortly) but till then you can call or email Donna Walrond, co-founder, for more information or to request a pickup once you’ve ordered directly from the restaurant of your choice.

I’m waiting for them to expand to Crown Heights. There aren’t too many choices on the “other side” of Eastern Parkway.

That, and expand to weekdays. I work in Bed-Stuy, and there are some great places 10-12 blocks away that won’t go anywhere near my office building. The hundreds of us in the building will make it worth their while!

This is actually a great idea. I may have to use this service.
