Bus Driver Stabbed to Death (81st Precinct)

In case you were wondering why there’s all that police tape on Gates Avenue:

(taken from Save Brooklyn Now!; click for link to full story in the Daily News)

A 46-year-old city bus driver was stabbed to death on his Brooklyn route Monday in a dispute with a passenger, police said.

The rare slaying happened just after 12 p.m., when the B46 bus made a stop at Malcolm X Blvd. and Gates Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Witnesses said the killer demanded to board the bus free and then stabbed the driver in the chest when he refused to hand over a transfer.

Same story in the Times.

CBS new version.

This is why I wonder if I should let my 11-year-old take the bus by himself.

The buses always seemed safer to me. This was in the middle of the afternoon. Driver don’t have some emergency button to press when they are in danger? That’s sad he leaves 2 little girls behind.

  2. IRVING says:

Yes it is sad but what is really sad they are on the look out for this person and not doing any other cases at all. Everything is now on hold i do hope they catch him sad situation and he let him on the bus at that.

  3. Lu says:

Do you think they are really actively on the lookout for this guy and not focusing on other cases? They said that the B46 bus line has the most fare evaders in the city, so maybe the cops may think it’s too much work to care about this part of the city. I not for the poor guy that died, and his family. I’ve seen it happen and they let people on but let me just ride for a little bit, but this is crazy how he demanded a transfer, than got off and on again, and went right up and stabbed him, how ugly. I always liked the buses and often took the B46.

  4. The Changeling says:

I just saw the B46 bus going down Myrtle heading east. Strange.

  5. Alexa11221 says:

I’ve had bus drivers let me on the bus with my son when he didn’t have his school pass and I only had my monthly card and no change. In general, they are very kind about it. I take the bus several times a day–in fact many of the regular route drivers recognize me now.

I think it’s so ironic and sad that the driver let him on the bus with an invalid card AND gave him the transfer in the end and he still got attacked and killed.

What’s next, getting blown away after you politely challenge someone about cutting in line?

  6. ab says:

you have an 11 yr old son?!?

  7. IRVING says:

Yes they put full force on this situation and guess what they have caught him in brownsville that was quick or some one dropped a dime.

  8. Lu says:

Ab, are you surpised Alexa has an 11 yr old son in general, or because she has one in BedStuy? I wish more young families would live here.

Irving, where did you find out this information. How on earth did they catch him.

What do you mean drop a dime. It’s an expression as I know it to mean the rich handing out dimes to the poor to help them.

  9. IRVING says:

LOL NO LU WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN IT MEANS CALLING THE POLICE AND GIVING UP INFORMATION IT STARTED WHEN THE PAYPHONES WHERE A DIME WAY BACK WHEN DO YOU REMEMBER THAT.
