Bed-Stuy Gets Its Own Kuma Inn Outpost

Looks like the wildly popular Kuma Inn will be opening an outpost in Bed-Stuy! In case you’ve never been to this Asian fusion restaurant, it’s located in Manhattan on Ludlow Street. The owner-chef King Phojanakong is opening the Bed-Stuy Kuma Inn (the actual name of the restaurant hasn’t been decided upon yet) at 433 Dekalb Avenue between Classon and Taaffe. Click over to Gothamist to read all about the new restaurant and view pictures of the space it will be occupying.

I’m happy to see a Kuma Inn-esque restaurant opening in the neighborhood, but what do you think about its opening in that location? Think it’ll see a good amount of business?

this is great! we are always wondering when a thai spot will open around westbed/clinton hill…it’s accross the street from pratt-it will def. do well.

  2. rh says:

What are you, a realtor now? Isn’t that Clinton Hill?

But what I really want to know is: When is MY end of Bed Stuy getting some action? (SoWeBed)

  3. Alexa11221 says:

what about here in the geographic center? I want thai food too! Will they deliver?

  4. floydcat says:

clinton hill/westbed…does it matter? more great businesses opening-bring it on!

  5. The Changeling says:

SoWeBed? LOL! Alexa, what’s the name for your area of Bed-Stuy? Tag it with a cutesy name and then the Thai fusion will follow. Apparently that’s how WestBed did it.

  6. Joe says:

West-Bed! wow. I think it;s a very odd location, but I’m sure lotsa pratties will eat there and if it’s successful it will change that little area significantly!

It will definitely be weird walking by there once they are open.

  7. lex11216 says:

Great news! We would usually trek to Williamsburg for good Thai. Long awaited in Bed Stuy, will do well.

  8. Alexa11221 says:

The block association likes “Lexington Heights” but I think they may be the only ones. Maybe “Stuy Center?” “Stuy Corners?” It doesn’t mean anything but it has a nice ring to it ;-)

“West Bed” “SoWeBed” – You live in Bed Stuy, it’s a real neighborhood in Brooklyn. Stop using dumbass acronyms and changing the names of neighborhoods. Bushwick, Hell’s Kitchen, Bedford Stuyvesant – not East Williamsburg, Clinton or SoWeBed or West Bed.

Yeah this is great, just what New York needs another Thai / Asian-fusion restaurant. Very original. I wonder if the people who’ve lived in the community for years and years will be able to afford and be welcome at a restaurant like this. Hmmm…

    I think this guy:

and Danny Hoch are right. This city really isn’t New York anymore.

Yeah, there are just so many fusion restaurants in Bed-Stuy.

Let me guess, you’re a NYC native, right?

I love the way you can get a native all worried just by changing the name of their oh-so-precious neighborhoods!

  11. rh says:

Well, I’m a Brooklyn native and I find the acronyms silly, but if I ever get as bitter as John, please let me know. SoWeBed was a joke. Hel-lo? NYC sarcasm??

  12. The Changeling says:

Yeah, I wanted to mention that you, rh, an NYC native, were the one who made the joke! I’m so glad that you have more of a Larry David type of sarcastic humor instead of the bitter-leave-my-borough-alone vibe that some people exude.

  13. Wow, I wish I could have such an impact on a neighborhood with my presence! Or that the native folk of Bed Stuy with a taste for something other than Crown and Kennedy could curry such interest from biz owners that the gentrifiers get. Alas, no dice.

The location will just bring more intrest from developers and buisness owners. I guess the owners of Kuma Inn, like most of you folks, is a revolutionary and a pioneer. Less Black, more green. Everyone is happy, right?

John- you are spot on. I love Thai food and having more stuff in the Stuy, but I hate the little suburbs within the city that are being created in the name of “change”.
