Sidewalk Gallery Show

Dekalb Lafayette and Bedford Avenues
I love to watch artists at work. This weekend I came upon a group of guys who were putting this beautiful piece up on Dekalb near the Bedford-Nostrand station. This painting is of a woman and her children. It looked like they’d already finished a graffiti-looking piece to the right of this one. I couldn’t get a good shot of that one because it was so dark and my camera’s just not that sophisticated.

I wanted to talk to the artists, but I was exhausted (thanks, Bed-Stuy Y!) and the paint fumes were overwhelming so I chose to stand back and watch. It was really neat to see all of the materials and tools needed to create street art. Ladders, spray paint cans, overhead projector, etc.

This corner is a real magnet for artists. Two years ago I photographed a decaying Swoon piece here.

I saw this too and it looked great. FYI…The actual corner is Lafayette and Nostrand.

Bed-Stuy Banana (www.bedstuybanana.blogspot.com) has some great daytime shots of this corner. It’s actually Lafayette (not Dekalb) and Bedford. I remember the smell of fried chicken (from that KFC on Bedford) and spray paint making me nauseous. Thanks for the correction.

yeah, all the art is on the Bedford end of that block.
