What’s the Story?

When I passed this corner, at Lewis Avenue and Monroe Street, in early February I wondered what had happened there that knocked this streetlight over. I snapped a few pics and continued on home.

As I continued to walk past this corner, noting the removal of the fallen light fixture and the addition of a temporary crossing signal, I wondered how long it would take to fix it.

When I walked past today, I snapped this new pic with the intention of checking the date of the first pics. They were taken February 2nd. This street corner has been like this for over a month.

I find it kind of funny that the person who spray painted the area to be repaired (as if it isn’t obvious) didn’t even move that little piece of broken glass first. And that it’s still there a month later.

Does any one know what happened at this corner?  Or the time frame for these types of repairs? Lewis Ave is a busy throughway during the day, but can get pretty deserted after sundown. We need our streetlights.

Did you call 311 and lodge a complaint?

Send them the pictures to Marty Markowitz or other elected official.

Wasn’t that where that fatal car vs. pedestrian accident was this winter?

We have SCOUT (New York’s Street Condition Observation Unit – I don’t know what the “T” stands for) that should be patrolling the area. It’s their job to report stuff like this to the proper agency(ies). Even so, it’s still good to call 311 whenever you see anything that should be repaired on the streets or sidewalks.
