ABOUT THE PANELISTS
JIMMIE BRIGGS is an award-winning journalist, author, and activist. His book, “Innocents Lost: When Child Soldiers Go To Warâ€, shed new light on the tragedy of child soldiering. His next book, “The Wars Women Fight: Dispatches from a Father to His Daughter,†will be released in 2009. Jimmie was a Special Consultant for the U.N. Special Session on Children, and he is founder of Man Up, a global campaign to engage young people against gender-based violence.
MIRIAM FOGELSON is an educator and freelance photojournalist who supports groups committed to youth development, grassroots organizing, and community activism. Her photo projects have addressed diverse socioeconomic justice issues in New York, New Orleans, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Israel and Mexico. Miriam teaches a class on the history of art and activism in NYC at The Museum of the City of NY.
STACEY MUHAMMAD is an award-winning independent filmmaker and activist committed to using the power of media to educate, enlighten and empower. Relocated to Brooklyn from New Orleans, she documents Hip Hop culture through film and digital media. CHRIS “KAZI” ROLLE is an artist, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He is creator of the ‘The Hip Hop Project’, a music-based arts education organization, and he is the focus of a film by that same name. Produced by Bruce Willis and Queen Latifah, the film depicts Kazi’s experience as a formerly homeless teenager who inspires a group of teens to use Hip Hop to transform their life stories into works of art.
