FILM & TALK 4 THOUGHT invites you to a free screening of THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS (with all the free hot popcorn you can eat!) this Saturday, May 30th at 1:00 p.m.
A movie you won’t forget…from the book by Ann Rice and directed by Peter Medak…Set in 1822…the free people of color in New Orleans are unchained but still tethered. Their position in New Orleans society gives them more status than free blacks in other parts of the country, but keeps them beholden to their white benefactors. Navigating between the extremes of slavery and white privilege also requires they observe certain European “customs”. One such custom is Placage. The hallmark of Placage is the Quadroon ball where wealthy white men negotiate to acquire young virgin Creoles as mistresses. Some accept Placage as expedience. Some pretend it’s love. Some think it evil.
The movie stars Peter Gallagher, Robert Ri’chard, Gloria Reuben, Pam Grier, Jasmine Guy, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Ben Vereen, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Beals, Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee.
