Bed-Stuy Will Soon Go Into Therapy

No, I’m not predicting that us Bed-Stuy residents will need to see a psychotherapist en masse.   Maybe we’ll all go together to Therapy Wine Bar (364 Lewis Avenue, between Halsey and Macon Streets).  This soon-to-be bar has been in the works since January.  Located across the street from the Brooklyn Public Library, the front is inconspicuous as of now.  Look closely for the hand-drawn chalk signage above the entrance.  I only knew something was happening because a couple of weeks ago, there was a private party happening during twilight.  A vibrant romantic illumination poured out of the place, glasses clinking and guests murmuring.  Then the metal shutters were back in place, as if nothing happened.

On Sunday, the shutters up and the door was wide open.  I ran inside to confirm my suspicion and was greeted by Angela Terry, one of the owners.  She was busy cleaning up and putting things into place, but gave a warm welcome and took some time out to give a quick tour.

Signage, as seen when their door is opened.

Their exposed brick and spring green accents are eye catching and blends nicely with the chocolate hardwood floors.  Also pleasing to see that they have garden space.  Angela says Therapy will specialize in new world wines from South America, Australia and New Zealand.  They plan to serve tapas platters and small plates.  She also says their bar will also host private parties and events.   They will even have free wi-fi access.    They’re hoping to open next month.   “We’re just trying to get the word out that we’re finally here,” Angela said with a big smile.  They’ve already hosted a couple of summer soirees and private affairs.

To get on their mailing list and to find out about upcoming soirees, please contact Therapy at therapywinebar@aol.com.  I’m hoping to do some more coverage on their official opening night.  I think this is what Bed-Stuy loungers have been waiting for.  After all, Angela is a Bed-Stuy resident, too.  What buzz have you heard about Therapy so far?

Dear Angela, congratulations! We really need this in Bed Stuy. Now, all we need is to have the locals come and support all the ‘small businesses’ in Bed Stuy. I owned a small business specializing in modern and antique furniture on Tompkins Av.

Totally opened this venture to be a part of the bustling community of Bed Stuy, support the local community and make Bed Stuy a part of the ‘up and coming’ nabes.

I will be there to check out the scene once you are officially opened. You can write to me at casaban@optimum.net and we call network for a better Bed Stuy!

  10. You are quite the reporter aren’t you? That’s why it’s always good to walk around with a camera, or cell phone that has one. I was not expecting the place to look so nice from the chalked sign entrance. But it looks great!

As far as the community supporting local businesses, you might want to check out the 3/50 Project. Their website has a lot of good information!
