This Saturday, August 15th, the Hattie Carthan Community Garden’s 5th Annual International Food & Film Festival will take place from 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Here’s the information from the flyer:

Spend an afternoon in a historic community garden communing with local community gardeners, join in our community percussion circle and create organic music, share international food recipes, meet community cooks and food justice activists working to create a just food system in NYC, learn about seed saving and canning the harvest, and find out about food and farm issues that affect our community. Buy locally grown fruits and vegetables at our community market next door. All foods are prepared by our garden members, some foods have been harvested from our garden. Our theme: Many cultures working as one community.

Due to the recent spate of violence in Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill the organizer, Yonnette Fleming, has made peace the emphasis of this year’s festival:

The Peace Circle will begin at 6 pm and will end up with a full drum and prayer circle. If you have an organic instrument, crystals and other peace tools in your possession, please bring them along to give energy to this fire that is burning.

The Future of Food and local film shorts will begin at 8 pm. Bring your blanket for the movie!
