Bed-Stuy Loses Its Last Yoga Studio

Maybe the hood’s not so gentrified after all.

Talk about not spending your money where you sleep! See below:

It is with great sadness that we announce the Golden Om Yoga studio will be closing its doors October 31, 2009. We have struggled with this decision for a long time, but given the challenges of this economy it will not be feasible to continue offering classes at this time. We have been blessed with the opportunity to offer our space and services to our beloved community of students, teachers and friends, but are presently unable to forge ahead without the resources necessary to provide optimal programs and services.

While it is possible that we will return after the new year begins, we regret to inform you that our last class for 2009 will be on October 31.We would like to thank Lia and Tina for their hard work and tireless effort over the past several months to help shape the Golden Om.

Thank you all for your dedication to our students and community.

Sincerely,

Placid Bone and Bryonn Bain

They just started offering Pilates classes, too.

Sunday, Oct. 25 will be the last of the regular yoga brunches. The yoga brunch class starts at 11am followed by food at 12:30pm. Bring a vegetarian dish or beverages and class/meal are free, or pay $15 for both.

That evening there will also be a sound meditation, details as follows:

Sunday, October 25th
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Join us to transition through our closing for a journey through the chakras with mantra, guided meditation and restorative yoga poses. In an extended sivasana, relax to the beautiful, ethereal sounds of quartz crystal singing bowls while receiving a personal “tune up” to clear negative and blocked energies through pressure points and meridians. Let the sound vibrations clear the clutter and leave with a mellow mind and body.

MacKenzie Pause is one of our gifted in-house instructors. Her background in music led her to experiment with Nada (sound) yoga. Attending various workshops for Sound Therapy inspires her to integrate the healing capabilities of music and yoga.

Drop-in rate: $20

To reserve a space, call 718 604 9291 or email goldenom@gmail.com with subject heading “sound.”

Sorry I missed your classes. Although I am not into Yogi, the classes that you have scheduled through end of Oct. seem really interesting. I hope you will be able to contine your programs again soon.

  3. What a shame, I’ve lived here for 2 yrs , & didn’t hear about this place ,I think sometimes these closures is due to a lack of networking within the bed-stuy community. Businesses are not supporting each other , Every sub -section of bed-stuy is only concerned with promoting themselves, Bed-stuy restoration only concerned with fulton street for example. Bed -stuy needs to come out of shell, understand no business in a community can survive with only clients and customers from their block

A few neighbors and friends are having a 10am class on Saturdays at my home on Halsey and Patchen. It is a little further east and not as spacious as Golden Om (very sad indeed that they are closing) but we love to have yoga close to us and unwind after a busy week. You are welcome to join. We are toying with the idea to have more classes as well so if you are interested, please contact me at bedstuyyoga@gmail.com. Let’s keep yoga alive in our community!

    Hello,
My name is Nicole Ryan. I am a reporter at News 12 Brooklyn. I am really interested in doing a story about your closure. I was wondering if Placid Bone or Byronn Bain could contact me. We think this would be an interesting business story. 347-242-9678

Nicole, you can try contacting her at the number on her website. Not sure if it is still a working number but it is worth a try: http://www.goldenomyoga.com/contact.html
