Now that the holiday season is underway, I’m already starting to feel the stress associated with having lots to do and no time in which to do it. Some time ago I won a gift certificate to Le Château de French Day Spa and Private Tea Room in a raffle. I haven’t used it yet, but something tells me that I will before the end of the year. I recently got a chance to chat about Le Château’s offerings with the owner, Nikima Frenche.

Your video for the spa is nice. Is it new?
Our video commercial is new. We felt that it was time to show what is hidden behind the doors of 441 Tompkins, what services are available and the class with which it is offered.
Any holiday specials being offered at the spa? Any new services being offered?
At Le Château there is always a deal waiting for a tired body to accept. We have a great couple’s package called Reconnect that includes side by side body scrubs, shower and massage, tea service and complimentary wine.
As for new services, Le Château now offers microdermabrasion treatments. We now can provide consultations for those guest who are looking for more in-depth treatments like deep peels, injectables and Lasik and refer them to doctors that we work along with personally. We offer classes to educate you on what is best for your skin.
What is your favorite spa service?
My favorite spa service has always been the facial; however, if one is truly stressed I always recommend a body scrub followed by massage.
You can sign up for specials. How does that work?
We encourage new guests to sign up for our monthly spa specials by visiting our website and entering their name and e-mail address. Our system will then prompt them to enter what services they are interested in.
What are VIP memberships and what do they include?
We are very excited about our Le Château VIP Membership, and so are our current members. Every time you give yourself a gift we give you a gift. It’s simple–by spending a minimum of $100 a month on yourself we treat you to free services, discounts on your skin care products and coupons to invite your friends to spa along with you at Le Château, not to mention free afternoon tea as well. It costs you only $29.99 per month, a savings of up to $120 monthly.
Your video mentions that you offer meditation. Does it come with a spa service or can you visit the spa for meditation only?
Tea and Meditation is hosted on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. No spa service is necessary. The cost is only $10. If you would like to include spa services just book your appointment early so you can flow right into meditation followed by a cozy tea service. We encourage you to bring your friends along.
We also have After Work Fridays. Bring us your weary bones and enjoy our mini services (deep mini back massage, mini facial for only $25 each) and exhale over an aromatic cup of tea. It is a fantastic way to end the work week!
In your video you mention that the spa offers full tea service. Can you tell me, as a person who grew up in a coffee-chugging household, just what full tea service includes?
AH…..afternoon tea–my favorite time of the day. I believe we are the first full tea room in Brooklyn with all the tea trinkets combined with spa services. Full Tea is your choice of loose tea with tea sandwiches, deviled eggs, scones with mock Devonshire cream and preserves and bite size deserts.
We also offer a Spa Tea which consists of rosemary crackers, a choice of three different types of cheeses, muffins and preserves paired with cookies for only $10. No chugging going on here!? We serve out of delicate china and gorgeous demitasse wares. You will feel like royalty, I promise.
When is tea service available?
Spa and Tea Services are available Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. (last seating is at 8:00 p.m.) On Sunday we begin at 11:00 a.m. and go until 3:00 p.m. unless you have booked a party with us.
Do you have to get a spa treatment to get tea service or can you come in for tea service only?
No spa treatment is necessary to indulge in afternoon tea. We love it when people walk in.
I hear you’ve got a special drink that you’re offering.
Our new Le Château Homemade Spiced Chocolate Mint Chai Tea is nothing short of perfect! It has cream infused with spices and chocolate mint flavored tea leaves topped with whipped cream, dusted with nutmeg and drizzled with a dash of angostura aromatic bitters. It’s served in a beautiful demitasse cup and it leaves you completely coddled in warmth.
Some people might be thinking that a visit to the spa is a luxury, an extravagance. What’s the best argument that you can give for visiting a spa?
You know I always say we find the money to spend on things that are not necessary to our well-being all of the time. We blow $100 so easily on things that only give us that feeling of instant gratification then it’s gone. Having a massage or caring for one’s skin as far as I am concerned is not a luxury but a necessity. By putting our best face forward always we will find ourselves in a better position to make decisions that are uplifting to our future. Sometime when things get so incredibly overwhelming it is nice to have a place that offers some sense of serenity, a place to breathe, a place where YOU are put first always. To me with the stress of our economic situation de-stressing is the only way to make it through.
Can someone still squeeze in an appointment before Thanksgiving?
Yes you can. We will be opened until the 25th and will reopen on the Saturday after thanksgiving.
