Due to structural damage in one home on MacDonough Street between Lewis and Stuyvesant, the Building Department has deemed 4 houses on the block to be demolished!
- 12 families are going to be displaced as of tomorrow!
- One 80 year old neighbor has lived in Bed-Stuy all her life and is being displaced.
- 4 buildings on a historic block will be destroyed and the chances are that these lots will never be rebuilt and become an eyesore or worse in the neighborhood
- The building department claims this is a safety issue, but they have extended the number of houses from 3-4 without any real reasoning behind it. We want to make sure that the Buildings Department is not taking the easy route and not preserving buildings that can be saved
We ask that our concerned neighbors show their support for these families by going to the hearing in court tomorrow at 260 Adams Street in room 438, 4th floor at 2:30pm!
Please call your local representatives and community board/block associations to help out.
Please forward this information to all concerned neighbors and media outlets you may have contacts with.
Thank you for your support,
Frantz R. Cayo
President, Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association
