Bed Stuy Pride

Spec Boogie is a lifelong resident of Bed Stuy and is quite the skilled MC. I love the creativity in his rhymes and he never fails to show love to the neighborhood he grew up in. One of his most recent songs, Bed Stuy, is a perfect example. He made a video of his paean to the ‘hood that was shot by Ali Santana.

I love how this video captures the neighborhood now, and weaves in scenes from a past time through images taken by photographer Robert Cave Sr. The track itself is pretty dope too. I love the usage of the radio station drop from Do the Right Thing.

You can check out stuff from Spec Boogie on his website and Vimeo  page. He did a great series of videos last summer where he flipped soundtracks and created verses inspired by some his favorite movies.
